Bitesize Subject Modules

Ideal for for staff meetings/ECT induction

With a greater focus on the National Curriculum and how schools are ensuring their subject curriculum meets the aspirations of the National Curriculum, these sessions will briefly unpick each of the subjects contained in the National Curriculum.

Aimed at primary practitioners they are ideal for ECT induction or professional development meetings for more experienced colleagues.

Each session is designed to be to cover approximately 90 minutes (inclusive of time for individual reflections/ staff discussions).

The sessions could be extended to 2 ½ hours each should schools wish to spend longer on the discussions contained within each module. During the sessions participants have the opportunity to reflect on:

  • the purpose of study, aims and subject content for each subject considering how this might be reflected in your school’s curricular intent;
  • how you have translated the expectations of the National Curriculum into your curricular planning;
  • children’s early learning experiences during the EYFS and considering the early foundational knowledge young children need prior to being taught the National Curriculum in Key Stage 1;
  • some of the key points made from the OFSTED Research Reviews/ regional webinars
    aspects of the subject curriculum that are often underdeveloped in primary schools (eg fieldwork in Geography);
  • subject specific vocabulary identified in curricular planning and how well this is being acquired and understood by pupils.

Each recorded session includes opportunities for discussion as well as supporting resources. The subjects will be released in two waves. There is an introductory module outlining the intent and content of the sessions in more detail.
